Maitri - The practice of loving kindness
With special emphasis on caring for our personal mandala
This practice stream starts in Autumn 2026 with the first session happening on Tuesday 13th October.
The weekly sessions will be from 4.00pm - 5.15pm(UK) on Tuesday.
What use am I to others if I'm no use to myself?
How can I liberate them if I cannot liberate myself?
Lama Shenpen - Turning the Mind away from Samsara
Over the course of 10 weeks we will be bringing the qualities of loving kindness, curiosity and clarity to explore our personal mandala. What is going on in our centre and at our boundaries? What are the messages within the body of our mandala? How do all our submandalas (all the different parts of ourselves) function and communicate? How does all this help or hinder us from being of benefit to ourselves and others? We will be anchored in the practice of the Metta Sutta and the Apramanas, and will also touch on themes of grounding, resourcing and self-compassion. This exploration could be seen as laying the ground for the Apramanas practice or, in the spirit of spiral learning, as something we return to at any stage of the path.
Love and Compassion is one of the Living the Awakened Heart practice streams. It is ideal for those who feel drawn towards developing their heart connections with themselves and others and long for freedom from suffering and well-being for all.
This practice group will be a foundation to go deeper covering such areas as:
- Apramanas
- Tonglen
- Lojong
This is a Living the Awakened Heart practice group, not a study or reading group. Sessions are 1 hour 15 minutes. Please only register if you:
1) Have worked through the themes of Discovering the Heart of Buddhism at least once.
