Love and Compassion is one of the Living the Awakened Heart practice streams. It is ideal for those who feel naturally drawn towards their connection with others and long for well-being for all. Or, of course, for those who feel this missing in their life and want to cultivate those qualities.

The practice stream runs over one year in 12 week cycles:

 - Apramanas

 - Tonglen

 - Lojong

In practising Tonglen with Namka, we will focus on the practice of ‘exchanging self for others’. As we take in our own suffering and that of others, we send out in return our positive qualities and energy. It is a way, as Pema Chodron says, ‘of making friends with ourselves and our own poisons and realising how interconnected we all are’.  It has been called a practice for turning suffering into compassion. Namka invites us to explore this practice, building on the Apramanas. Our focus will be on teachings given by Lama Shenpen on Love and Compassion in 2020, and also some of her teachings on the cause of suffering and Tonglen and Bodhichitta.

This is a Living the Awakened Heart practice group, not a study or reading group. Please only register if you:

1) Have worked through the themes of Discovering the Heart of Buddhism at least once.

2) Are able to commit to a regular practice of Tonglen during the 12 weeks. Your commitment will depend on your personal circumstances and exploring our commitment to practice will be an integral part of our reflective work as a group.
