All members of the Awakened Heart Sangha are strongly encouraged to setup an automatic monthly donation. 

Why make regular monthly donations?

In traditional Buddhist cultures one makes offerings to teachers and practitioners as an integral part of one's own spiritual practice. In this way our monthly donation is an expression of our generosity and commitment to each other and our teachers; it has symbolic as well as financial value.

To handle the practicalities we have set up a charity (‘The Shrimala Trust’) and this is what we make our monthly donations to. All donations go towards the costs of providing the training and supporting the Sangha’s activity, enabling us to flourish and grow together.

Regular monthly donations are crucial to the stability of the Sangha’s finances and its ability to reliably plan and develop what’s offered. Therefore we strongly request all members to set up a regular monthly donation.

How much should I give monthly?

That depends on your circumstances and inspiration. We have members who give more than £100 a month, and members who give £5 a month. A good figure for most people to aim for is £40 a month, as this enables a rich and growing range of activities. 

However, your membership is valued whatever amount you give, and your donation helps whatever amount it is. It is more important to maintain a spiritual connection through your regular financial support than to give a particular amount.

What about if I can’t give much regularly?

Even if your finances are difficult or unpredictable and so your monthly amount has to be very low, making a regular monthly donation still creates a strong spiritual connection; it links you into the fabric of the community of Awakening, through the ups and downs of life. It’s an outer expression of the inner spiritual stability we’re all aspiring to cultivate.

This kind of participatory process and energy exchange is so much part of how we understand the path to Awakening, that it doesn’t usually make sense to want to be a member but not want to make a regular donation.
