Sunday Gathering: From Self-Deception to Confidence with Humour
The less confidence we have in the natural spaciousness of our being, which is vaster than anything
we might fear, the more we cling onto distorted and necessarily limited versions of who we are.
We may even fall into spiritual materialism as a form of self-deception. The antidote to this is... humour :)
Join Pati to explore these themes from Confidence and The Indestructible Heart Essence together.

The more we cling onto distorted and necessarily limited versions of who we are, the less confidence we have in the natural spaciousness of our being, which is vaster than anything we might fear.
Out of that fear we may even fall into spiritual materialism as a form of self-deception.
This is sad, and as Trungpa Rinpoche pointed out spiritual materialism is an approach that is lacking in joy. It’s
an attitude of taking ourselves too seriously. So the antidote to the trap of spiritual materialism,
this self-perpetuating, self-maintaining self-deception, is developing our sense of humour!
Is there such a thing as humour that comes from the heart? If so, how is it related to our confidence
to make mistakes? What kind of courage does it take to break free from self-deception.
Let’s explore these themes from Confidence and the Indestructible Heart Essence together and see just
how light-hearted can we get about the most serious of subjects!
