Formless Meditation Retreat

Hermitage of the Awakened Heart, North Wales
Lama Shenpen Hookham

Formless Meditation is the practice that all students of Lama Shenpen and the Awakened Heart Sangha are involved in. This week-long retreat will look at the relationship between this style of practice and a traditional Śamathā approach from an experiential point of view.

Lama Shenpen will talk about how this relates to Mahāmudrā teachings and Dashu will support students in connecting to stillness, tranquility and developing a more stable meditation practice.

By enrolling in this event, you are committing to joining all of the teachings and at least one practice session per day.
You are also invited to join discussion groups and the regular daily morning and evening prayers and meditation.

Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their meditation practice in one to one interviews with Lama Shenpen or Dashu, as well as meeting with other students of the Awakened Heart Sangha.

This retreat is aimed at all members of the Awakened Heart Sangha and anyone who has a regular meditation practice and would like to discover more about the teachings of Lama Shenpen.

When you book, you are committing to attending the event online. If, after booking you find you are unable to make the event, please let us know as soon as possible.

You are encouraged to participate on the event as fully as you can, and are invited to attend all the sessions listed.
We understand that it isn’t possible for everyone, and therefore you can reflect on what boundaries you would like to include in your participation.

It is up to you how you choose your boundaries.
Once you have chosen them it is good for your practice and for the strength of the whole retreat that you stick to them as best you can.
If that means that you can only join in one session each day, then make that commitment and stick to it. You might also decide that for the whole day you will make a special effort to live by the five precepts (link to read more about them) or you will choose to avoid all emails, phone calls or communication with anyone other than those on the event..

All in all, an online event can be as strict or easy as you make it, but the most important thing is to make your commitment and try your best to stick to it. And if you aren't able to, then notice how uncomfortable it can be, and reassert your wish to keep to your word in the future.
