Cutting through spiritual materialism

For his annual visit to the Awakened Heart Sangha, Lama Rigdzin Shikpo has agreed to talk about his own experience of Trungpa Rinpoche’s teachings focusing on Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism – in particular his teaching on the development of ego.

In order to understand our route out of samsara it is helpful to consider how it is we get trapped in it in the first place.  Trungpa Rinpoche always talks from the point of view of the Primordial Ground and the subtle movements within that give rise to endless the confusion of egocentricity and suffering, even though in a profound sense we never move away from the Natural Perfection of the total ‘Whole’.  As we become familiar with how that process of confusion arises moment by moment in our formless practice, our opportunities to step out of it become increasingly obvious.  The rate of progress might be painfully slow because of the strength of our habitual patterns, but at least we can glimpse the way forward with increasing confidence and joy.

Lama Shenpen will be teaching on the same theme with particular emphasis on how to link these teachings with that of Buddha Nature and Openness, Clarity and Sensitivity.

Lama Shenpen will teach on both days, and Lama Rigdzin Shikpo will come on Sunday.

Limited accommodation is available at the venue, Roots and Wings, and nearby. You may also attend one or both days on an offsite basis. As places are limited it is essential to book by Friday 7 September.

The price is £140 including accommodation and all meals, or £70 offsite.
