Discovering Wisdom in the Heart of Negative Emotions: Weekend Retreat

Lama Shenpen will teach on Mandala Principle building on Katie’s introduction at the previous weekend on this theme (22-23  October).  This is an opportunity to deepen your understanding of the teachings on Mandala Principle that are introduced in Discovering the Heart of Buddhism.  At the same time reference will be made to specific aspects of Mandala Principle in Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche’s teachings.  Rigdzin Shikpo will take this further in his talk on the Sunday afternoon.

The retreat will start with supper at 7pm, and the first session at 8.30pm, and run until 5pm on Sunday. There will be periods of silence during the retreat, as well as meditation periods and teachings. The retreat will take place at the Bilberry Hill Youth Centre on the outskirts of Birmingham.  We encourage everyone to stay for the whole retreat, but it is possible to stay off-site or come for just one day. Bedding will be provided. Accommodation is simple but comfortable, and bedding will be provided.   All attendees will also be asked to take on a job to help the running of the retreat such as helping in the kitchen or tidying the shrine room

About the teachers:

Lama Rigdzin Shikpo has spent over 50 years studying and practicing Buddhism.  He met his principal teacher Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in Britain in 1965 and continued to practice under his direction after Trungpa Rinpoche left for America.  in 1975 Trungpa Rinpoche established the Longchen Foundation in consultation with HH Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and they appointed Rigdzin Shikpo as Dharma Director. Since the deaths of Trungpa Rinpoche and HH Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche has been Rigdzin Shikpo's main source of guidance.

Lama Shenpen Hookham went to India in the 1970s on the advice of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, and lived among the Tibetans as a nun for 6 years, studying and meditating in retreat.  in 1978 His Holiness the 16th Karmapa, head of the Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, instructed her to return to the West to teach Mahamudra.  There she met Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche, who became her main teacher; and her husband, Lama Rigdzin Shikpo.  In 1999, students inspired by her teaching formed the Awakened Heart Sangha under her direction.
