Manifesting the Awakened Mind: Stupa Consecration Event

The stupa being constructed at the Hermitage will be consecrated at a special event this October. As Lama Shenpen has described, in the Buddhist tradition stupas are regarded as monuments of immense spiritual power, nexuses of connections that bring down the adhistana of Awakening. Therefore it is regarded as extremely beneficial to have the strong connection that comes from participating in the creation of a stupa by attending the consecration.

Our visiting Tibetan stupa expert Lama Phuntsok and his 3 assistants will be arriving in the UK on 25th September. They will be firstly completing the stupa at Karma Dechen Choling, Daphne ‘s site near Hay on Wye, before coming to the Hermitage on around 5th October and staying for 7 – 10 days.

We are planning for the event to run from Wednesday 5th – Thursday 13th October, with the main consecration on the full moon of Wednesday 12th. However, we can’t make any promises about the timings.

The event will be a structured programme of meditation, teachings and also assisting in and being present at the rituals involved in the elaborate process of filling and consecrating the stupa.

As stupas are symbols of the mind of the Buddha, Lama Shenpen will give teachings on ‘Manifesting the Awakened Mind’. Lama Phuntsok has offered to give some teachings while he is with us and Lama Rigdzin Shikpo may also be present and may offer to teach us as well.

Accommodation at the Hermitage will be limited so it is advisable to book soon. Camping is an option and we will also provide a list of local B&Bs and self catering cottages.

Priority for accommodation will be given to those who can attend the whole event. We are able to offer free board and lodging for a few people who are willing to help with organising the event and especially providing hospitality for the Lamas.  We are encouraging people to come early – from 1st October and to stay on after the event to help.
