The Buddha's Portrait of Samsara
A weekend in preparation for the Jewel Ornament Retreat
with Katie Morrow and the Teachers Group
24-25 January 2009
Weekend Event at St. Mary's Convent, London
"This wheel is the portrait of samsara and therefore also of nirvana, which is the undoing of the samsaric coil. This image provides a good background for understanding illusion's game, based as it is on the Four Noble Truths as the accurate teaching of being in the world." Trungpa Rinpoche
How did I get here? Where am I going? Not understanding how things truly are, we wander in confusion. Join us for a weekend exploring the Wheel of Life, a vivid and detailed portrait of samsara and karma. Gently exploring these teachings on how suffering perpetuates itself, we can begin to understand how we might step out of the samsaric cycle. We will focus particularly on the way in which Trungpa Rinpoche presented these teachings. This weekend is a suitable for all studentsbeginners or experienced practitioners. It will be especially helpful for those people planning on attending the Jewel Ornament of Liberation retreat at the Hermitage in June.
Taught by senior students of Lama Shenpen, this weekend is part of an on-going series on Practice in Everyday Life. While entirely suitable for newcomers, some familiarity with the Discovering the Heart of Buddhism course will be helpful.
This weekend is open to everyone, and it is fine to come to either one or both days.
Saturday: 10:00am-5:30pm
Sunday: 9:00am to 5:30pm
The cost is £15 per day. Please also bring vegetarian food for a 'bring and share' group lunch on both days. To ease serving and clearing up, food should be already prepared and ready to serve.
All London weekend courses are held at the St. Mary's Convent, Priory Field Drive, Edgware, Middx, HA8 9PZ (a 15-minute walk from Edgware tube station).
There is limited accommodation at St Mary's Convent for £15 per night, including breakfast. It is essential to book this accommodation in advance by emailing [email protected]ku.gro.sha@nodnolnisdnekeew .
